We are The Thinker.
Closed off, lost inside, hunched over, preoccupied with an idea of a self that is perpetuated through separation - repeatedly drawn to the notion that we are distinct from everything else. We are dealing with an idea of a self that we constantly reaffirm through an internal dialogue.
We talk to ourselves.
We have a private conversation within that almost always takes place in reference to a past, which has already happened, or a future, which has not happened yet - and both do not exist. Our life slips by and we barely notice it passing. We are thinking - stuck in the scripts of self-perpetuated dramas that we feel are unique to us.
Any search for a way out cannot begin until questions arise.
Yet, most of us live without questions - we have all the answers. Real questioning begins when we take the risk of displaying our doubts, though in general, it takes time to learn the difference between deeply looking at what we are doing and why - and superficially investigating the premises of our lives simply because we feel we should. Why do we hesitate to articulate what is most important to us?
It is true that the unexamined life is not worth living, but it is simultaneously true that the unlived life is not worth examining.
